A half a billion down the drain - in one year

Soylndra owed the U.S. taxpayer half a billion dollars, but a news crew caught them destroying millions of dollars' worth of parts. They needed to put their assets up for sale, after destroying those very assets. Incredibly, workers were willing to trash hyperexpensive solar panel tubes, tossing away millions of dollars of specialized glass. Why would an in-debt-to-taxpayers, bankrupt country be tossing away these commodities?
